I just love summer! although not so fond of the extreme heat that we can get but don't get me wrong

I'm not complaining, It just means that I have to spend more time in the pool..... Oh what a life!

for those of you who haven't read my previous posts I'll catch you up the "readers digest version"
You may not know I have a disability which limits me in the amount of activity I can do. I have a form of Epilepsy which is an abnormal cluster of blood vessels on my brain; so I take medication for that....
Then 6yrs ago I had to have surgery on my neck to have one of my disks fused well..... the Surgeon screwed up and he paralyzed me. So.....that means a lot more medication. I have worked hard to learn how to walk
and use my hands again. Playing the piano really helped and that was something
I was not willing to give up, and as far as the walking goes went thru lots of therapy
and then it just comes down to getting off the couch and staying as active as I can.
So now that I've caught you up on my story you will understand when I give all the credit to my wonderful
hubby for all the work he does around our yard and in the gardens.

Okay, now I'll take you on a little walk around our B&B.
One thing we have lots of is..... bird houses cause we also get lots of different kinds of birds.

Now lets mosey on to the back yard.

Many great places to sit have a cup of tea or cold drink
and daydream among the flowers.

As you can see I'm not very good at the whole
picture taking thing, my son is the one who usually takes the pictures........
Guess I need to learn more about lighting and settings on my camera.

Fresh Brioche Bread!

This summer has been extremely busy here at our B&B. One of the favorites around here has been fresh brioche. My family just can't seem to get enough of it! My son is always asking for it, and of course when his two sisters come home it's a must. they all like it fresh out of the oven but when I serve it to guests I make french toast and once you try it you won't want to go back to your usual bread. It's quick and easy too! Cause lets face it who want's to be stuck in the kitchen on a nice summer day. So if you have a bread machine here's what you do.......

                       Measure all ingredients in order into your machine.
1/3 cup warm water
3 eggs
   3 egg yolks
   3/4 cup of butter
                 31/3 cup flour
              1/4 cup sugar
              1/2 tsp yeast
    Place machine on dough setting. When done roll out dough on floured serfice, place into a bread pan, to raise for about 1 hour. Bake in 350 oven for 25 min.

Orange Coffee Cake

Hello friends!

I don't know if you have a recipe like this one,

but I didn't and I thought it sounded good,

so I tried it and.... yup it turned out very good!

So good that there's no picture.

I'm going to make it again and this time I will take a picture

for you to see how it turned out.

This recipe will be a keeper easy and quick to make.

So put the coffee on and invite a friend over to share it with!

Orange Coffee Cake

Prep Time: 25 minutes

Cook Time: 45 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour, 10 minutes

Yield: 24 Servings

Coffee Cake:

18-ounce yellow cakemix

3 ounce package instant lemon pudding mix

zestand juice from 2 oranges, divided

less than 2/3 cuporange juice

1/2 cup vegetable oil

4 eggs

1 teaspoon orangeextract

Topping:

2 tablespoons butter,softened

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup rolled oats

1 tablespoons cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon freshlyground nutmeg

1/2 cup chopped pecans

11 ounce can Mandarin oranges, drained

Preparation:

Coffee Cake:

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease 9x13 pan.

Set aside1/2 orange zest. With a hand mixer, combine rest of coffee cake ingredients ina large bowl. Mix on low at first and then on medium for 2 minutes. Pour batterinto pan. Sprinkle with topping mix. Bake for 35 to 43 minutes.

Remove from oven. Cool for 10 minutes and then drizzlewith CookedOrange Glaze.
11 ounce can Mandarin oranges drained

Topping:

In a medium bowl with a pastry blender or two knives

inscissor fashion, blend butter, sugar, rolled oats and spices until crumbly.Hand stir in reserved zest, nuts and orange slices.

making cookies.

I served them to the girls when they came that night for our scrapbooking

evening..... what a hit!

They just had to take some home for there family's to try.

Lavender Bath Salts

There is nothing more relaxing
than a nice warm bath
with Bath Salts.
This prompted me to come up with a homemade
version for gift giving.
A great gift and very frugal.
You could add a Bath sponge to make a nice gift set.
There's a lot of different versions out there
but I've kept it simple
so that it will be cost efficient for you.

1 cup Ebson Salts
1cup dead Sea Salt
1-2 drops food coloring (opt. color of choice)
1-2 drops lavender Essential oil
1 tsp. dried lavender (optional)

Mix in a large bowl until all ingredients are well blended.
Using a funnel, pour into bottles or jars.
Decorate with labels, gift tags and ribbon.

I hope you have fun with this.....
But most of all enjoy a relaxing bath!

Well take it from me, you really should take them out of those books
before its too late!
I had pictures that I literally had to scrap from the page.
Even if your not into scrap booking save your photos by putting them into
photo albums with pockets, you'll be glad you did! :)

Best Vegetable Dip!
Block of cream cheese, soften 8oz.
Dark corn syrup 1/2 cup
Beat until smooth. Add....
Granulated sugar 1/2 cup
cooking oil 1 cup.
Add remaining ingredients and beat well.
Minced onion flakes 1/4 cup
White vinegar 1/4 cup
Lemon juice 1tbsp.
Celery seed 1 tsp.
Dry mustard 1 tsp.
Salt !/2 tsp.
Paprika !/4 tsp.
Makes about 3 cups.
For a lighter dip substitute light corn syrup for the dark.
Freeze half of this recipe for up to six months
so you have a sweet veggie dip at your finger tips.

After along time out I'm now back at it.... and loving it!
I've become almost addicted to it, uummm.... yup I am.
There are times when my kitchen looks more like a craft room.
This is a picture of the first grocery store in our town. I remember
going here many times with its dim lighting and warped wooden floors.
And in the winter a potbelly stove to keep the store warm.

Hello my beautiful friends....I've missed you!
It has been a busy last few weeks trying to keep up with
cleaning, yard work and guests coming and going to the cottage.
As guests were getting ready to say goodbye one morning
a bird flew into one of our windows, Al picked it up and it
sat on his finger for such a long time.

Guests that were staying with us.
They were amazed how relaxed the bird was.

Summers Delight

Fresh fruit is always a nice additive at your summer brunch.
Quick and easy and can be mad up a head of time.
Guests will be impressed with your homemade glaze.
When we think summer barbecues its often
potato salad, pasta salad and green salads.......
So why not try something different!
Fresh Fruit Glaze.
1 stick butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup sour cream or (cream cheese)
3 tsp vanilla
Melt butter over medium heat reduse to low and add brown sugar.
Stir till smooth.Remove from heat and cool.
Add sour cream and vanilla to cooled mixture.
Drizzle generously over fresh fruit!
Try adding granola for garnish.
If you are stressed for time frozen fruit is fine,
just make sure to drain all juice.
Enjoy!

Hello my dear friends.
I don't know if this happens to you
but I have so many different colors of lilies that I have lost
track of them all..... so when they bloom its always a surprise.
I'm not much of a green thumb so I find that you can't go
too far wrong with Lilies.

This is just one of our gazebos, its so quiet and peaceful
sitting among the flowers sipping on a glass of ice tea.

I sure hope you are all enjoying your summer.....
even though I am kept busy with guests coming and going to our B&B
I enjoy it but always find time to sit around and be lazy

This has been something that I have struggled with
over the past four years since my surgery.
Seasons can change so quickly and just when you think
life is good...... suddenly God decides to throw a road block
in and send you in a different direction.
You can fight against it and wallow in self pity, waist time asking Why me,
or say......
God I'm yours, show me where you want to use me.
For me loosing the ability to walk and the motor skills of my hands
has been a real loss and lots of hard work to regain back what I do have.
I am one of Gods miracles through his grace I can walk with the help
of some one by my side and tho my hands are slow I can play the piano
which has always been an important part of my life.
I once was a very active person so now having to rely on family and friends
has been a learning experience and where I once fit in I no longer do.
Oh yes there are days I grieve for the things I once could do but
my friend if you have found yourself in this kind of a situation.....

Don't ask for life to be easy.....
ask for it to be worth it!

of those who love him, who have been called according

Blooming where we are planted or in a place we just don't like.

I've been trying to send you messages from your blog, but haven't been having any luck. I hope this will work! I can tell you are really enjoying blogging. Fun, isn't it? And to think it all started with us watching that movie while we were there. Zach and I loved staying with you guys. It was such a treat to see you again after soooo many years. I think it is cool how we could just pick up like no years had passed in between. I was happy to introduce Zach to Clearwater too. He loved it there, and once he heard you could get high speed Internet there, he wanted to move there.

So how are you, my friend, Marnie?
Thank you so much for sending my orange coat to me. I have used it a lot because we've been having so much rain this summer. This is wonderful though, because we've had dry drought-like summers for the past few, so we are very thankful.

I am painting another chair! It's very bright and very beautiful (so far!), so I am hoping it will turn out nicely in the end. I always feel so happy when I'm creating! Hopefully I'll find a buyer too ~ although Zach already wants to keep this one. LOL

Have you guys been busy with B&B guests this summer? Greg and I hope to have a short get away to Jasper later this month. We will likely rent a car because our vehicle is not entirely trustworthy and we don't want to get stuck somewhere in the middle of nowhere. I seriously cannot remember the last time we went away anywhere together, so we're really looking forward to going.

After my guests left and I was well on my way to cleaning up
our B&B the sun was out and it felt sooo.... good, so thinking if I were to
finish up inside I could spend some time outside.... WRONG!
The weather turned down again and it rained the rest of the day!!!!
But now that's okay, because thanks to a very old and good friend
who got me started blogging I have something to do.
And I'm having so much fun with it.

Hello friends I'm back to tell you more of my story.
So now I find myself totally dependent upon others for absolutely everything.
Oh how humiliating!! Family members took turns feeding me and yes that sister
of mine took great pleasure in it there were lots of laughs. Even when my children
and husband were around we had so many laughs. I believe this was a big part of my recovery.
A positive attitude....yes along with a lot of hard work but now four years later it has all payed off.
For someone who plays the piano it is a miracle that I have mobility of my hands though not quite
as flexible I can play again and because I have a spinal cord injury I now walk with a limp and need
help from family but it sure could be a lot worse!! God is so good!
James 1:12 Blessed is the man who preservers under trial, because when he has stood the test,
he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

Good evening friends, I had a great day it was sooo nice out! the sun shone all day...
there was no rain!! Now I thought I would spend the evening with you sharing a little
bit about my life and how I ended up where I am today.

Yes this is exactly what you are thinking. I am a twin and this is one of our baby pictures.
We were raised by our grand parents in a small town of just a few thousand people.
Now I don't know how you would feel if you were always dressed like your sister but we hated it!
And that's because we wanted to be individuals, can't say we were very close either...
too busy trying to be different.

But you know it's amazing how the years change you because we don't mind dressing alike now

and are even known to show up at Church and other events waring the same thing.
We have grown a lot closer over the years but in 2006 is when we were really drawn together.
I was having surgery done on the discs in my neck when something went terribly wrong.
I woke up paralyzed!.... the surgeon had damaged my spinal cord leaving me with no
mobility in my legs or my hands.
Psalm 145:2 Everyday I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.
The story doesn't end there because I wasn't about to just give up and I don't
think my family would have let me anyway....

We have had so many birds this past week that its been hard keeping all the feeders filled. My son Dayne started snapping pictures of the birds fighting for position at the feeder one day, so when it came to picking out a couple of them to show you...boy was it hard! Use It Or Loose It!

Do you ever feel like you just don't fit in? Sometimes it can be hard to know how to fit in or even where we fit in. Have you ever felt useless that your giftings and talents have no purpose? Or that you have none; well...that's a lie because whether you realize it or not you do!

1Cor. 12:4 There are different kinds of gifts but, the same spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.

Man's idea of unity is conformity- walking, talking, dressing the same... you know what I'm talking about we've all been caught up in it at one time or another. We are tought at a young age to want those designer jeans, be thin like the models in the magazines but Gods idea of unity is... nothing is the same. The hairs on our head are not the same, our DNA, our thumb print,I'm an identical twin and even we aren't the same. Nor are the rocks in this magnificent Water Fall. Gods idea is diversity in our function and yet when someone comments on apart of us that is different we right away feel guilty for it and could almost take it as a put down. People don't understand those who are different because our society wants to keep people in a box. I'm sure there are those of you who feel like a round peg trying to fit into a square hole.

Eph. 4:11-13 It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Well the two men that were given the five Talents and the two Talents used their ability to gain more but the man who was given one Talent buried it and didn't use what he was given so it was taken from him. I'll let you read the ending v.28-30.

God gives you the ability with the expectation that you will increase your ability by gaining more knowledge, taking classes, seeking wisdom from those who know more. He wants to show favor on you. He wants you to prosper.Col. 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.

You may be one who has been struggling to fit into the four walls of Church. You don't sing like a sparrow, more like a crow with a bone stuck in its throat and you'd rather stomp on those little ankle biters than help out in junior Church. I'll let you in on a little secret ...God didn't say that our gifts could only be used inside the Church. The Church is not the building but the people and nowhere in the Bible does it say you can only use your gifts inside those walls.

Some of you have the gift of teaching.... outside the Church...., serving....outside the Church,

counseling....outside the Church, leadership...outside the Church.

Faith is risk taking, stepping out with no guarantee - Faith is believing whole heartily in the unseen and then stepping out towards it even if it doesn't make any sense.

Abraham stepped out in faith following God leaving the comforts of his fathers house where he didn't have to worry about a thing, to go into a Land where now sheep are dying, women and children are dying, there's no food.... talk about having to have Big Faith! But if you use you gifts for God He will evoke fruit that will be long lasting. If you feel useless lifeless and alone that is the enemy's plan to divide and conquer to make you feel like you have nothing to offer and that you are not useful. Its time we use our gifts! and accept the gifts given to others without a jealous heart or a heart of envy. So lets encourage one another to go and bare much fruit!

Yummy Breakfast Muffins!

Apple Banana Muffins

11/2 cups flour 2 eggs
1 cup Rolled oats 2 tbsp cooking oil
1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup milk
2 tsp baking powder 2 mashed bananas
1 tsp baking soda 1 cup apple pie filling
Salt 1 cup Cranberries

Measure first six ingredients. Stir to mix
In a small bowl beat eggs till frothy. Mix in oil, milk and bananas.
Pour into dry ingredients stir just to moisten batter will be lumpy.
Fill greased muffin tin.
Bake in 375F for 20 min.

Invite a friend over , put the coffee on and enjoy!

Oh, you gotta love spring buds popping out into bloom pollen everywhere...
blood shot eyes and runny noses but if your lucky the sun is shining
so if you have to be seen out you can ware those dark sun glasses
taking up space in your drawer and for that runny nose we must thank
the person who thought to put lotion in the Kleenex, now that was genius!
But I'm not at all complaining.I love Spring I just suffer along

Music soothes the soul!

Where would we be without music? It comforts us, strengthens us and makes us feel good whether we are having a good day or a bad day. Jesus has given me that same comfort as I learn how to deal with my limitations.I have to say I've had to laugh a lot at myself...
They so caringly placed a piano bench in front of the key board for me to sit on while I play for the Worship Service. It is now time to get back up and sing the closing song. Now our Pastor who has way more energy than most healthy people bounds up to the front of the stage so we hurry as much as possible so that we can at least catch him on the last verse...(great guy I love him) anyway I am helped over to my spot by my loving sister who also needs to make her way to her spot and strap her instrument to her body so...in haste leaves me I grab for the piano bench. Don't get ahead of me...Okay yes the next thing I know is that bench and me become one, legs floundering and all I can think of is why did I ware a skirt? Ya, God sure does like to keep me humble. so now our Pastor calls me up a couple of weeks ago and says lets just keep it simple this week because we are going to be down in numbers, so we decide there will just be three of us on stage and we'll all sit on stools. Now something you need to know it has been over a year since my last humiliation and I've come a long way since then, or so "I" think. Oh so proud sitting up on that stool... like a grown-up! Pastor on one side of me and another gentlemen on the other. Mic in my left hand turning pages with my right when I don't know what happened but here we go again as I proceed to turn the page I just couldn't stop and over I went. This time All I could think about was thank you Lord!! at least this time you prepared me I'm waring pant's. The next time their going to Velcro my but to the seat... If there is a next time.
Have Faith, fight through your adversity and surround yourself with like-minded people, with vision and dreams who strive to do great things.
Challenges are not meant to destroy you but to promote you! Make you stronger!

Don't ask for life to be easy... ask for it to be worth it! Which is some times easier said than done that is why in January 2006 I had a serious choice to make.I had just had surgery on my neck to repair a disk, when I woke up I was paralyzed. Not knowing if I would ever be able to walk again or feed myself I decided that with Gods help I would not let my circumstances rule my life!
I can do everything through him who gives me strength. Phil 4:13 So I could expend my energy on anger and why Lord or I could expend it on positive thinking and doing what I needed, to get out of that wheel chair. That's not to say I didn't have my down times.
I'm reminded of the story of David in the Old Testament. He was the apple of Gods eye, at 16yrs old is confirmed as king and then God chose David to be the one to fight Goliath the Philistine champion.not Now lets not forget David was a young boy small in stature Goliath on the other hand was over nine feet tall, but did that matter to God?...No 1 Samuel 16:7b The Lord does not look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. So with the strength of God in him and with him David defeated Goliath.
The Giant in my life was my paralysis and I could go forth with God beside me being my helper and strength or I could be miserable and struggle alone. The latter just sounds like too much work! Are you going after your Giant? or are you running from it? Your Giant could be worry, sickness, anxiety, health, fear, finances.
Are you letting your circumstances determine your strength? or your faith? We have to become Kings just like David did stand up go forward and fight our giants. Don't allow our circumstances to determine our fight. How strong is your Jesus in you to overcome your Giant?
All things are possible who strengthens me for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Our God is bigger than our Giants that we face so do you have the Faith that David did to trust that we have a Big God?
What did David do? He attacked without hesitation. Davids eyes were fixed on the one who had delivered him in the past. Fear enters in when there is hesitation and procrastination. He fought with Gods strength. Eph 6:12 The Giant is the evil force that you are fighting against.
What did David use to fight? Faith, Jesus Christ in him.
Worry, fear, anger are weapons used by the enemy against us. Matt 9:18-30 Your Faith has healed you. * Walk by Faith not by sight.
so are you determining what your future is going to be on your current circumstance? If you are its a lie from the pit of Hell!!
I took that walk in Faith to trust that God has wonderful things ahead for my life even though it may not be what I would have expected at all. I am thankful I have come to the point of walking and using my hands again even if I do stumble and fall! It's Like falling off a horse you get right back on again!!
